HAVING SELECTIVE HEARING (2005)

is like a ride on Wonkerian machine
something to really make you sing
hands and feet inside the me machine
here we go ho ho ho
and this time it'll be us alone
to churn the wheel
not those lil oompha pickaninny loomps.

so like I said
selective hearing is
an incredible journey
only this time everything is real
from blood
to dust
to candy’s atomic sub particles

I’ll write down the words you see
I write well words I select to hear
(and perhaps feel taste and touch)
it's not easy this
I know because my mother’s mother's
mother's mom,
a slave, said so.
